Your Free Will Writing Service

Available to all alumni and their partners
All alumni and their partners of the Newcastle University Alumni Community have access to the free Will writing service provided by The Taylor Lucas Partnership. We will provide our standard Will writing service completely free of charge.
Making it easier for you to write your Will
Our free Will writing service has been designed to encourage more people to write a Will. Over half of the population do not have a Will and our research shows this is mainly due to cost, a lack of understanding and a general confusion on how to access a professional service. Our free Will writing service eliminates the obstacles and we are thrilled to invite alumni and their partners of Newcastle University Alumni Community to the service.

Why do I need to write a Will?
If you don't make a Will, your money, property and possessions will be distributed according to the rules of intestacy on your death which means your estate may not go to who you would have chosen.

Further issues can arise if you have a child under the age of 18. Should the worst happen and you have not appointed a legal guardian for your child in a Will, the decision on who becomes their carer is left to chance or to the courts.

By simply making a Will, you assist your loved ones by reducing their administrative duties and relieving them of a heavy burden.
The Process
After Booking Your Appointment
Step 1: Easy pre‑appointment questionnaire
Shortly after booking, we’ll email you a link to a secure online questionnaire.
You can complete this on a desktop, laptop, tablet or mobile phone – whatever is easiest for you.
The questionnaire is straightforward and written in plain English. It will ask you about your personal details, your family, and the main decisions you’d like to make in your Will, such as who should inherit your estate and who you’d like to appoint in key roles (executors, guardians, and so on).

You’ll also be able to upload your identification documents within the form, so there’s no need to bring extra paperwork to your appointment or send copies separately.

Completing the questionnaire before we meet gives your estate planning adviser a real head start. It means we can review your information in advance, understand what matters most to you, and come to the appointment ready to focus on advice and options rather than form‑filling. In many cases, this allows us to prepare a first draft of your Will ahead of time, making the whole process quicker and easier for you.
Step 2: Helpful client brochure

Once you’ve submitted your questionnaire, we’ll email you a copy of our client brochure.
This gives you a clear overview of the process, the different planning options available, and what to expect from your appointment.

We recommend taking a few minutes to read through the brochure before we meet. Many clients find that it answers common questions and helps them feel more prepared and confident, without needing to learn any legal jargon.

Together, the questionnaire and brochure are designed to make things as simple and stress‑free as possible. You can complete everything at your own pace, from the comfort of your home, and arrive at your appointment knowing that the groundwork is already done.
What You'll Need To Decide
Executors
Name the people you want to take charge and administer your estate when the time comes.
Trustees
Name who should be responsible to look after money that is due for your children when they become an adult.
Guardians
Record who would be legally responsible for looking after your children should the worst happen.
Beneficiaries
Identify who will benefit and receive your possessions, money and property.
During Your Appointment
During your appointment, your adviser will take you through everything step by step so you feel informed and in control.

How long the appointment takes

Please allow around 60 minutes for your appointment. This gives us enough time to go through your Will carefully, answer your questions, and make any changes you’d like without rushing.

Reviewing your draft Will together

At the meeting, your estate planning adviser will share a first draft of your Will and walk you through it in clear, plain English.
They will explain any legal jargon, check that your wishes have been captured correctly, and help you think through any decisions that still feel uncertain.

You’ll have the opportunity to discuss your choices – such as beneficiaries, executors, guardians and any specific gifts – and your adviser will update the draft as you go so it truly reflects what you want.

Additional advice and next steps

Your adviser will also look at your wider circumstances, such as your family situation, property, and other assets, and explain any additional planning options that might benefit you in the future.
Depending on the complexity of your situation and the decisions you make, a follow‑up appointment may be recommended so we can explore these options in more detail or finalise your documents.

Making sure you are confident

The aim of every appointment is simple: to make sure you are comfortable with your decisions and fully understand your Will before anything is issued.
We will never release documentation until you’ve had the chance to ask all your questions, make any adjustments you need, and confirm that everything accurately reflects your wishes.
